TIS Reading Education Program

Reading is one of the most crucial skills children will learn. Indeed it can be said that it is the “gateway to education”. It is the keystone that all other academic disciplines are hinged. The National Reading Panel has identified five key components or areas that should be included in a successful reading program. These skills should be taught in an explicit, systematic, structured and multi-sensory way. These areas are:

  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Phonics
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Reading Comprehension Strategies

It is my goal to help inform, instruct and support the staff at TIS to become better teachers of reading.  I will also provide instruction to students as identified through the student assistance team (SAT) process.
