Programme of Inquiry
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) has 6 transdisciplinary themes that provide the framework for the Programme of Inquiry. These themes are used to develop the curriculum each year in grades K through 5. They are considered transdisciplinary because they combine multiple subject areas.
The Themes are:
- Who we are.
- Where we are in place and time.
- How we express ourselves.
- How the world works.
- How we organize ourselves.
- Sharing the planet.
The teachers develop a programme of inquiry that provides the specific subjects, education standards and lines of inquiry that will be taught with each theme in each grade. During the approximately 6 weeks for each theme, Teachers guide students to investigate, think critically, meet education standards and combine and connect their knowledge from all subject areas.
